What changed just before it stopped

The most useful thing an owner can tell us is what happened in the week before. A remodel that closed the gap in front of the kick area. A new filler or a heavier panel hung on the door. A floor laid over the old one, which lifts the cabinet a fraction. A unit pushed back after a clean behind it. None of those looks like a fault, and any of them can leave a sound machine unable to keep up.

Before the base comes off

Sub-Zero’s Designer guide lists one case where nothing is broken: a display showing 38° and 0° while the unit does not cool can mean it has been left in showroom mode, which is a question for Sub-Zero Customer Care. Ahead of any repair, that guide wants the condenser clean and the door shutting properly, not standing ajar.

On combination units, Sub-Zero describes the refrigerator and freezer as separate refrigeration systems. A warm refrigerator beside a cold freezer therefore points to the refrigerator side, and the search narrows to one half of the unit.
