What sits behind the 700 name

Integrated was Sub-Zero’s panel-ready range before Designer, and the same numbering covers tall cabinets and undercounter drawers. This page is about the tall ones: 700T and 736T, a door above two drawers, each face wearing a custom panel and handle or a stainless panel from a Sub-Zero dealer. Undercounter 700B drawers belong to the pages that own them.

The number gives the width: 700 cabinets are 27 inches, 736 cabinets 36 inches. TR is all refrigerator. TCI is a combination, fresh food behind the door and freezer below, with the ice container in the lower drawer. The all-freezer TFI cabinets share the same Sub-Zero guides.

Where age shows on a 700

We open a 700 at the parts that move and carry weight.

  • Seals. The door and each drawer close on a gasket of their own. Sub-Zero’s troubleshooting for frost, condensation or ice inside the cabinet treats a torn door or drawer gasket as a call for service.
  • Door hinges. The tall door carries its panel on an upper and a lower hinge. A panel past its limit, or a door leant on, lowers the handle side.
  • Drawer fronts. Each drawer panel hangs from a tabbed bracket along the top and an L-bracket underneath. Screws that work loose let the front drift out of its reveal.
  • Lights and chime. The control senses a face left ajar: it chimes, and it switches the lights off to keep their heat away from the food.

Level comes before panels

Sub-Zero’s installation guide has the cabinet levelled to the floor, not to the cabinets either side, and warns that a unit off level can affect how its door closes. A floor that has settled under the unit, or a refit that changed the run around it, can leave a sound door short of its seal. We read the level before any panel or hinge is touched.

Parts, the tag and a plain answer

The rating plate is inside the cabinet, to the left of the upper drawer, and carries the model and serial. We look every part up against both numbers, because these cabinets have left the current range; Sub-Zero files their guides as legacy documents. Each repair is priced before the work.

Door work, meaning gaskets, hinges and panel hardware, brings a tired 700 back to a firm seal without touching the refrigeration. A cooling fault on the same cabinet is a separate question, and we say which of the two we are looking at before anything is ordered.

Questions owners ask

How heavy can the custom panel on a 700 Series door be?

Sub-Zero's Integrated installation guide caps the tall door panel at 40 lb on the 27-inch 700 cabinets and 53 lb on the 36-inch 736 cabinets, and asks for panels at least 5/8 inch thick. Can a 700 door be kept from swinging past 90 degrees?

Yes. A 700 door opens to 105 degrees, and a 90-degree stop is built into the hinges, set by turning a cam on the upper and the lower hinge. Sub-Zero asks for it where a panel thicker than 3/4 inch meets a reveal under 1/4 inch. We set it on a visit.

Does the door alarm on a 700 wait before it sounds?

It does. With the alarm switched on at the control panel, the chime sounds once a door or drawer has stood ajar for more than 30 seconds. A chime with every face shut points at a door not closing fully, or at the part that senses it. Sub-Zero Appliance Repair Bellevue, (425) 696-2636.
