Sub-Zero Repair in Vuecrest, Bellevue

Warm is a reading, not a feeling
We begin by logging what each compartment actually holds. Out of the box, a Designer unit holds a preset of 38°F for fresh food and 0°F in the freezer. A probe that stays well above that over several hours is what we treat as running warm. One reading taken after the door has stood open is not.
Where the cabinetry comes in
A built-in breathes through its base. Sub-Zero’s safety instructions ask for ventilation openings, in the unit and in the built-in structure around it, to be kept clear. The installation guide also sets a plane that a decorative toe kick must not pass, and calls for a reduced toe-kick accessory where the kick is between 2 and 3-7/8 inches high. A toe kick fitted past that plane, a rug, or a basket parked against the grille all cut the air reaching the condenser, and the cabinet warms while every part inside is sound.
The condenser and the room
Sub-Zero places the Designer condenser low, behind a kickplate held by two mounting screws. Its guide sets the cleaning interval at six to twelve months, and has the power switched off at the control panel before that plate is lifted away. Lint on the fins is the next thing we look for once the door has passed. A hotter kitchen is on Sub-Zero’s list too, as a reason the compressor runs longer. That one is not a fault, and when the readings point there we say so rather than order a part.
